Esther Faye: ‘The psychoanalyst and the traumatic parent: two actors in the neurotic’s ‘tragic' drama'
In The Knowledge of the Psychoanalyst (1971-1972), Lacan draws a striking parallel between the positions of the psychoanalyst and ‘the traumatic parent’. Where the ‘traumatic parent’ is attributed with having produced the neurosis of the subject, the analyst is given the task of reproducing it – under transference. Esther Faye’s presentation ‘The psychoanalyst and the traumatic parent: two actors in the neurotic’s ‘tragic’ drama’ will consider the import of these interconnected positions of parent and psychoanalyst in the light ofthe fundamental traumatism, or rather, troumatism, which inaugurates the tragic dimension of the neurotic’s drama.
Attendance is free upon registration and detailed outlines and a bibliography for each seminar will be provided.

The Trans-Tasman Seminar
The Trans-Tasman seminar is the result of a collaboration between members of the Forum of Melbourne, Esther Faye and Susan Schwartz, and of the Forum of Aotearoa New Zealand, Chantal Degril, within the frame of the International of the Forums of the School of Psychoanalysis of the Forums of the Lacanian Field (IF-SPFLF). Its aim is to contribute to Lacanian discourse in our region and beyond by applying theoretical concepts to particular clinical cases. In 2024, Esther Faye and Susan Schwartz became members of the Forum of Aotearoa New Zealand.
